Current Conditions as of 1 PM on Monday: Temperatures are into the low to mid-70s this afternoon under a mix of sun and clouds. Wildfire smoke will move southward from Canada over the remainder of the day, turning skies hazier this evening. *** Tuesday’s Forecast: Low pressure system off the New England coast will provide northwesterly flow for Tuesday. Temperatures will reach the upper 70s under hazy skies with a mix of sun and clouds. Ozone concentrations will be limited to the high end of the good range. With the northwesterly flow, wildfire smoke from fires in eastern Canada will move into the region early on Tuesday. While most of this smoke looks to be above the surface, concentrations of fine particulate matter (PM-2.5) will become elevated at times when combined with local emissions. Concentrations will be in the high moderate range on average for the day with some locations into the Code Orange range due to periods of higher readings throughout the day. *** Extended Outlook: The northwesterly flow will continue for Wednesday with temperatures into the mid to upper 70s. Concentrations of PM-2.5 may remain elevated at times, but most of the wildfire smoke that was overhead Tuesday will push more to our south. Ozone concentrations due to influence from the smoke will be monitored if enough of this smoke clears and we see more in the way of sunshine than clouds. As of now, enough scattered clouds should help to limit significant ozone formation. Moderate levels of air quality are expected for Wednesday. The low-pressure system will remain just to our northeast the remainder of the week to continue the northwesterly flow. Temperatures will be in the mid-70s. Additional waves of wildfire smoke will be monitored throughout the remainder of the week.
